Music Initiation

Do you sometimes think that your youngest might have a hidden musical talent, but you feel they are still a bit too young to start music lessons? Is your little one constantly drumming rhythmically on anything that resembles a drum set or singing along with every song on the radio? Do you play an instrument yourself and often catch them staring at it? Do you want to nurture this interest and give your youngest a head start in music?

For children like these, De Rockschool continues to innovate, and starting from February 12, 2025, we are launching music initiation classes! A new series of lessons for toddlers and preschoolers (aged 3 to 6) where they can take their first steps into the musical world in a fun and accessible way.

The music initiation classes will be held on Wednesdays from 3 PM to 4 PM, and participation costs 150 euros.

What does our music initiation look like?

The goal of our music initiation is, above all, to have fun with music! Our experienced coaches and music educators, Hannah and Marie, will guide the little musicians on their first musical adventure. The children will get to know music in a playful way by singing rhymes, nursery songs, and verses together, playing musical games, and dancing. While the young musicians focus on play and fun, they will also learn about melody, harmony, timbre, dynamics, and develop a sense of rhythm. This way, they'll already gain a solid foundation in music theory.

We also encourage the children to experiment and improvise in various ways using different types of instruments.

In addition, they will have the opportunity to explore different instruments, allowing them to make an informed decision later on about which instrument they might want to play.

The Suzuki Method - How does it work?

The music initiation is based on the Suzuki method. This method is rooted in the idea that if young children can quickly learn and master their native language in their early years, they can also learn to play or understand music in the same way, provided they receive sufficient stimulation and practice. In practice, this means that we immerse the children in music in various ways—dancing, playing, singing—with a strong focus on learning music through listening, playing, and imitation, rather than formal music theory.

It is important to create an open and accessible environment where every child can explore and play music without tests or exams. Everything progresses at the pace of your little musician, allowing them to discover the joy of music without pressure.

Advantages

One of the major advantages is, of course, the development of musical understanding. At this young age, children can quickly grasp basic musical concepts, and their musical ear can develop significantly. Gaining and mastering these concepts early on greatly benefits the process of learning and playing an instrument or engaging in any musical discipline.

By being exposed to various instruments throughout the course, your young musician can discover on their own which instrument suits them best. This allows them to quickly form a bond with an instrument, and by the time they are old enough, they already have a solid musical foundation.

The Suzuki method also supports the development of concentration, fine and gross motor skills, and memory.
